9/27 Last Round of Treatment

Today  Mom says, "Going in for my last treatment. Goodbye to cancer! Thanks for the prayers! Today the sun is shining on me........."

No one is as thrilled as her kids that she took the aggressive approach to all her treatments and is coming out smiling. Splenectomy and rituximab- Mom, a lot of this has not been easy but through it all you've been brave and you & God attacked this lymphoma. What an incredible example you are for us all!

Matthew 19:26
Jesus looked hard at them and said, “No chance at all if you think you can pull it off yourself. Every chance in the world if you trust God to do it.” MSG
Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”  NIV
After all, who do we think invented the spleen and bone marrow?

Love you Mom, thank you God!

9/5/12 1st Round Rituximab

Sorry for the lack of updates, I had a baby & went off the grid.

8/10/12 Mom got her first grandson, that did wonders for a weary heart.

9/5/12 Mom started something similar to Chemotherapy. Nanna & Grandpa Bob took her for her first round of rituximab in Omaha. It took 5 hours and she didn't feel too bad, just tired. Thanks to all the advice from friends she wore jeans and took a blanket so she didn't freeze during those 5 hours. She also was very thankful for the blankets out the blanket warmer.

By later that evening she was feeling great and rocking her surprise visitor! She is still feeling great!

9/7/12 Vascular doctor cleared Mom from her blood clot observations. He said a clot will continue to be there but that her body has worked a way around it.

Plan for the future: Mom will have 1 treatment of rituximab a week for 3 more weeks and then will do blood work every few months and scans every so often to keep an eye on everything for awhile.

8/9 Update

Mom is feeling so great she got off the continuous morphine drip pump and is on the pill except when she needs a little more pain relief. She is feeling pretty good this afternoon. My family says she looks great, impressive what some rest and relief can do for a mom. :)

8/8 Great Day

Mom is having a great day with low pain! Hopefully the worst part of her day is my sis Madison making fun of her menu. (see picture below) They have her on a liquid diet to let her digestive system rest a little too. Rest, recover, and your daughters think the blenderized desserts are likely to be the tastiest part of the menu. :)  Love you Mom!

8/7 Answered Prayers

Thank you all for prayers, they work! Mom is now COMFORTABLE, what a huge step so she can rest the future away!

She now has pain under control and under continual monitoring of heparin blood thinners for awhile. The plan is to stay in the hospital for awhile, maybe a week to closely monitor clotting in her splenic veins and blood thinner dosages.

She called me for the first time in what felt like forever and I could feel the relief in her voice. What joy that brings to my day! :)  Thank you Lord for all the nurses, doctors, surgeons, and family along this road that do their jobs with love to take care of my mom while you protect her!

8/7 Update- blood clot

During a CAT scan this morning at Fairfax they found a blood clot in a vein of mom's stomach. They had started her on blood thinners last night suspecting that and then increased the dose when it was confirmed this morning. She is currently on the way up to Omaha, NE as a precautionary measure.

Pray that she is now on the road to relief since they've targeted a problem.

Update 8/5-8/6 Prayers Requested

Mom has been in a lot of increasing pain yesterday and today. She called the Mayo surgeon this morning and upon his request went to the ER this morning and had a CAT scan and blood work. The results didn't come back with anything conclusive. She was still in too much pain to deal with at home so they went back to ER this evening. Still unsure what is causing her so much pain but ruled out pancreatitis and she is going to have an ultrasound in the morning.

Please say lots of prayers for her to get some pain relief and if there are any other complications that they find them as soon as possible. Family requesting no visitors in the hospital, Mom is too uncomfortable and on a lot of pain medicine, thanks for your cooperation. Prayers for answers and relief are the best thing for Mom at this point and prayers for patience for the rest of our family as we wait it out.
